Get Started Managing Data in Naviance

To get started populating your Naviance account with data, review the data import methods and data import types outlined below, then answer the following questions. After you answer the questions, you'll be ready to start populating Naviance with data.

In addition to student data, what other data will you import? Consider how you plan to use Naviance with staff, students, and parents.
Which method will you use to import each data type? Consider who will be responsible for maintaining data in Naviance.
If you have Naviance District Edition, what data will your district manage? What data will schools manage? Data imported at the district level auto-populates school-level accounts based on the assigned school ID number that you must add in Naviance.

Naviance recommends managing as much data at the district level as possible.

Data Import Types

Review the types of data that you can import into Naviance, the methods you can use to import each data type, and the building levels at which you can import the data.

If using Naviance for Districts:

Data imported at the district level will be available at the school level.
Data imported at the school level will not be available at the district level.

You can also manually create individual student and parent accounts without using a data import method.

Parent	The initial student data import creates parent or guardian folders in Naviance and populates them with personal and demographic information. College application	Add historical college application data such as the colleges to which a student has applied, the type and result of each application, and other details for alumni students or when not using College Application tools or the Graduation Survey in Naviance. Data Import Methods

Review the available methods for populating Naviance with data.

Manual Imports	Create a CSV or tab-delimited TXT data file and manually import the file in Naviance. Use to manage all data import types, if desired.
SchoolSync™	Automate student, parent, and test score data imports to ensure data is up to date by writing a cURL statement that connects with and pulls files from your SIS. If automating data imports using SchoolSync, you must complete an initial manual import to map data fields.
Clever	Integrate Clever with Naviance for turn-key staff and student data management and single sign-on (SSO).
PowerSchool Data Integration	Integrate your PowerSchool SIS or eSchoolPlus SIS for turn-key management of student data. Course Planner subscribers can also integrate PowerSchool SIS for turn-key management of course catalog, course mapping, and student course data.
Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)	Create a direct export from your SIS to Naviance via SFTP to maintain the course catalog, course mapping, and student course data. Only available with Course Planner.
