eDocs and College Application Tools Overview

Use Naviance's College Application tools for centralized management of student and staff activities related to college applications, teacher letters of recommendation, and scholarships.

Before using College Application tools, complete the setup steps.

Students can manage the college application process in Naviance Student by:

Staff can manage application requests in Naviance by:

  • Tracking colleges to which students are applying.
  • Monitoring transcript requests and updating request status.
  • Monitoring letter of recommendation requests and updating the request status.
  • Tracking college outcomes.
    • To review college-related data, use the Outcomes, College Applications, Scholarships, and eDocs 2.0 Reports.
    • Export college application data.


Naviance eDocs is an electronic college application tool that allows schools to prepare and send college application documentation electronically to over 5,000 colleges and universities. After activating eDocs, you can send students' application materials, including the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) forms, to any electronic destinations served by Parchment and Scribbles. If eDocs is activated, you can also choose to integrate with the Common Application and send application materials, including Common App forms, to all members of the Common App network via Naviance eDocs.

If your school chooses to integrate Naviance eDocs with the Common App, you must submit all documents to Common App using Naviance eDocs.

Setup Steps

  1. Update staff user roles and permissions.
  2. Adjust Naviance Student settings.
  3. Update Student Data.
  4. Activate eDocs.

Student Actions

  1. Register with Common App.
  2. Complete the Common App account matching process.
  3. Add colleges and request transcripts and teacher letters of recommendation.

Staff Actions

  1. Review college applications and transcript and letter of recommendation requests.
  2. Prepare and send initial, midyear, and final materials.
  3. Track submission of materials.
  4. Use eDocs reports.

Get Started with eDocs

Before you can use Naviance eDocs to send application materials to Common App institutions, students must:

    • From Common App:
      • Register starting on August 1.
      • Enter high school information, add at least one college, and sign the FERPA Release Authorization from their Common App account.
    • From Naviance Student:
      • Complete the Common App account matching process.
      • Add non-Common App colleges to their Colleges I'm Applying To list.
      • Request transcripts and teacher recommendations.
Students only need to complete these steps if applying to Common App institutions.
