Select Optional Features

Naviance Student Sections and Features

Create a unique Naviance Student experience for students in every grade level by enabling sections and features that align with your school or district's college, career, and life readiness program.

  1. Navigate to Connections, then select Naviance Student.
  2. Choose Select and Update Optional Features.
  3. Navigate to Naviance Student Sections and Features, and then select the corresponding checkboxes to enable sections by grade level.
  4. After enabling a section, select the corresponding features to make available for that grade level.
  5. Click Update Features at the end of the page.

Custom Content Languages

By default, students, parents, and guardians can choose to translate Naviance Student into more than 75 languages by clicking the globe icon in the main navigation. You can also turn on a custom content language to add a custom welcome message, page, link, or news bulletin in Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Korean, Spanish, or Vietnamese. 

  1. Navigate to Connections, then select Naviance Student.
  2. Choose Select and Update Optional Features.
  3. Navigate to Custom Content Languages and then choose On for the selected languages.
  4. Click Update Features at the end of the page.

Informational Boxes

The Naviance Student, Colleges, and About me homepages display Informational Boxes by default that alert students and parents to opportunities and information related to college, career, and life readiness. While Naviance determines the content of the informational boxes, you can control which pages display the informational boxes.

  1. Navigate to Connections, then select Naviance Student.
  2. Choose Select and Update Optional Features.
  3. Navigate to Informational Boxes and then choose Off for the selected locations.
  4. Click Update Features at the end of the page.

Student Edit Permissions

Determine which information related to demographics, college interests, and applications students can add, edit, or delete in Naviance Student.

Naviance recommends not allowing students to edit their usernames and passwords if implementing SAML or Clever.
  1. Navigate to Connections, then select Naviance Student.
  2. Choose Select and Update Optional Features.
  3. Navigate to Student Edit Permissions, and then choose student edit permissions by grade level.
  4. Click Update Features at the end of the page.

Parent Edit Permissions

Determine if parents and guardians can manage their own demographic information or add college to their student's I'm Thinking About list in Naviance Student.

By default, parents are allowed to edit their Naviance Student password.

  1. Navigate to Connections, then select Naviance Student.
  2. Choose Select and Update Optional Features.
  3. Navigate to Parnet Edit Permissions and choose On or Off for each permission.
  4. Click Update Features at the end of the page.

Registration and Sign-In Options

Choose which options are available for students, parents, and guardians who log in to Naviance Student using a username and password.

  1. Navigate to Connections, then select Naviance Student.
  2. Choose Select and Update Optional Features.
  3. Navigate to Registration and Sign-In Options and choose On or Off for each setting. By default, all settings are Off.
    • Allow registration without an email
      • When this setting is Off, Naviance prompts users to log in with an email and password. The email address used upon log in will auto-populate the email field in the Naviance parent or student folder, if no email address is listed.
      • When this setting is On, Naviance prompts users to log in with a username and password.

        Naviance recommends this setting is On for alumni to access Naviance Student using native login.
    • Hide option to reset password
      • When this setting is Off, the log in page displays Forgot your password?, which students, alumni, parents, or guardians can select to reset their password.
      • When this setting is On, students, parents, or guardians cannot reset their passwords upon login. Instead, they must contact the school to request a temporary password.
    • Hide I need to register link
      • When this setting is Off, the Naviance Student login page displays I need to Register, which students, parents, and guardians must select if they have a registration code for first-time login. This setting must remain Off if parents and guardians will not log in using Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML).

      • When this setting is On, students, parents, and guardians cannot enter a registration code.

        Naviance recommends turning this option On if you have assigned usernames to students via a data import, parents and guardians will not log in to Naviance Student, or if all users are logging in via SAML.
  4. Click Update Features at the end of the page.

School Contact Information

  1. Navigate to Connections, then select Naviance Student.
  2. Choose Select and Update Optional Features.
  3. Navigate to School Contact Information and then enter a:
    • School Web Address.
    • Main Counseling Office E-Mail.
  4. Click Update Features at the end of the page.

Rank Display Options

You must set up Rank and Decile before displaying rank or decile in Naviance Student.

  1. Navigate to Connections, then select Naviance Student.
  2. Choose Select and Update Optional Features.
  3. Navigate to Rank Display Options and then select the corresponding checkboxes to enable options by grade level.
  4. Click Update Features at the end of the page.

Statistics and Scattergrams Options

Determine the data to populate Scattergrams and historical college application statistics.

Additionally, customize Scattergrams from Preferences.

  1. Navigate to Connections, then select Naviance Student.
  2. Choose Select and Update Optional Features.
  3. Navigate to Statistics and Scattergrams Options and then update the selected options:
    • Senior Class Applications
      • Choose to include application results for this year's Senior class or not.
    • Minimum Total Data Points
      • Select the minimum number of data points needed to display college statistics.
    • Minimum Accepts/Denies
      • Require at least two acceptances or denials to display the data in college statistics.
    • Scattergram Symbols:
      • Select to display basic or advanced symbols in Scattergrams.
    • Allow GPA Toggle:
      • Allow students to choose to display weighted and unweighted GPA in Scattergrams.
  4. Click Update Features at the end of the page.
