Manage Course Planning

Recommendations

Encourage students to take certain courses by using the Recommendations feature. Students can review recommendations when adding courses to their plans of study.

Recommend courses to students

  1. Navigate to Courses, then select Recommendations.
  2. Select Add a Recommendation.
  3. From the Add a Recommendation page:
    1. Enter the course name or ID to recommend in the Select a Course field.
    2. Select a class year.
    3. Select students, then select Add or Add All.

      Enter a student name or ID in the student search field to find a student, then select Add.

    4. Select Save.

Review course recommendations

  1. Navigate to Courses, and then select Recommendations.
  2. Optionally, enter a course name or ID in the search field to locate a course.
  3. Select Edit Students for the selected course.
  4. Review the Selected list for a list of students for whom the course was recommended.
  5. Optionally, from the Selected list, choose a student, and then select Remove.
  6. Select Save.

Manage student course plans

Review and approve student course plans

Parents can review and approve course plans from Naviance Student.

  1. Navigate to Courses, and then select Student Course Plan Manager.
  2. Optionally, use the filters to display course plans that meet specific criteria.
  3. Select course plans, and then Approve from the Bulk Actions list. The course plans are locked for editing after being submitted for approval and must be unlocked for students to make changes.

    Alternatively, select the eye icon to display a student's course plan.
    From Staff Editing Mode:
    • Review and make changes to the student's course plan.
    • Select Check for Alerts to display notifications about the student's course choices.
    • Review the student's course selections and make changes as needed.
    • Optionally, select Approve. The course plan is locked for editing after being submitted for approval and must be unlocked for students to make changes.

Unlock student course plans

Students cannot edit their course plan after submitting it for approval. You must unlock the course plan for a student to update it.

  1. Navigate to Courses, and then select Student Course Plan Manager.
  2. Select all course plans or selected course plans to unlock.
  3. Choose  Bulk Actions and select Reopen.

    Alternatively, unlock a student's course plan by going to Courses, and then selecting Plans in the student folder. Locate the course plan to reopen, select View/Edit, and then Reopen.

Export data

Export student course plan data

  1. Navigate to Courses, and then select Student Course Plan Manager.
  2. Choose filters to display course plans that meet specific criteria.
  3. Select Export and then Current View Only or Signed by Parents to generate a CSV file with student course plan data.

  4. Select Export to generate the download file.

  5. Retrieve the email with the download link. 

    Use the Student Readiness Report to bulk print student course plans to share with students and parents or guardians.

Export student course plans

Export student course plans from Naviance for review or to import into your Student Information System (SIS) to assist with course scheduling.

Alternatively, districts using PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) can sync course requests via an automated data export from Naviance to the SIS.
