Import user data with SFTP rostering
Use Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) to set up an automated, secure transfer of student and staff data or groups between Naviance for Elementary and your school or district's student information system (SIS).
Prepare for the SFTP import
Generate a Secure Shell (SSH) public key. You will share the SSH public key with Naviance for Elementary support to associate it with your account. If needed, the support team can help you generate the SSH public key for a new deployment.
Identify a staff user with administrator permissions to run the import and receive email notifications after each upload.
Submit a support ticket sharing the following:
Your intent to set up SFTP for automated student rostering
Your Naviance for Elementary URL
Your administrator's name
The SSH key generated in step 1
Export and test the file
You can include both students and staff in the same file.
Use one of the following for the School data field:
National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) ID
State Specific ID
Name of the school as listed in the All Schools list from Manage Users
Complete a manual data import to test your file.
Review and correct any errors from the import.
Optionally, if signing in with single sign-on (SSO), ask a student or staff member to sign in to Naviance for Elementary via SSO to ensure you have imported the correct usernames.
Begin SFTP rostering
Receive the SFTP connection information from Naviance for Elementary support.
Configure your SFTP to use the SSH private key generated along with the Naviance for Elementary connection information.
Host = sftp.headed2.com
Authentication type = private/public key
Username = the subdomain of your Naviance for Elementary URL. For example, if your URL is sunshine.elem.naviance.powerschool.com, sunshine would be the username.
Password = leave blank
Upload your file to your root folder.
Name your file users.csv to ensure your import does not fail.
Schedule your rostering between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM to avoid running SFTP during the school day.
