Use survey builder features

Create a custom survey

  1. Navigate to Connections and select Surveys.
  2. Click Create a New Survey.
  3. Enter the survey details and then click Create New Survey.

    • Select Success Plan Survey if you plan to assign the survey as a task.
    • Set the Report Level to anonymous so students' responses are only available in the summary report. You cannot change the Report Level after you have created the survey.
    • Share your survey to add it to the Shared Survey Library.
    • For surveys such as brag sheets, choose Survey will be a permanent data input form that should remain editable after completion. Students can revise their answers as needed. You cannot, however, generate a list of students who have completed the survey because the survey status is never displayed as complete.
  4. Click Add/Edit Questions at the end of the Add Survey page.
  5. From Add/Modify a Question, select a question Type from the list, enter the question details, and then click Add Question.
  6. Optionally, from Edit Survey Questions:
    • Change the question order.
    • Preview a question.
    • Edit or delete a question.
  7. Click Back to Edit Survey.
  8. From Survey Access, select On to make the survey available in Naviance Student.
  9. Optionally, choose to Re-administer the Survey and enter a date.
  10. Click Update Survey Options.

Edit a survey

  1. Navigate to Connections and select Surveys.
  2. Choose a survey name.
  3. Optionally:

    • Edit the survey details and then click Update Survey Options.

    • Click Add/Edit Questions.

      When editing a survey, you cannot update the Report Level.
  4. Optionally:
    • From Add/Modify a Question, select a question Type from the list, enter the question details, and then click Add Question.
    • From Edit Survey Questions:
      • Select a question, and then click Edit.
      • Change the question order.
      • Preview a question.
      • Edit or delete a question.
  5. Click Back to Edit Survey or Back to Survey List.

Delete a survey

Delete a survey to remove it from your school's survey library and if shared, the Shared Survey Library. Navigate to Connections and select Surveys. Choose delete for the selected survey.

  • Survey responses will no longer be available after you delete a survey. Naviance recommends downloading the responses before deleting the survey.
  • Consider inactivating the survey if you do not want to permanently delete the survey.

Preview a survey

Use the preview feature to review how Naviance Student will display the survey to students. Navigate to Connections and select Surveys. Choose preview for the selected survey.

Review survey responses for all respondents

  1. Navigate to Connections and select Surveys.
  2. Choose responses for the selected survey.
  3. Optionally, select the Class years, Response set, and Responder type from the corresponding lists, and then click Change.
  4. Review the responses per question.
  5. Optionally, select:
    1. View details to display individual student responses.
    2. Printer-friendly summary and then use the Print option from your web browser.
    3. Full detail excel csv to download the survey responses in a CSV file.

Review survey responses for a student

  1. Navigate to the student folder.
  2. Select Surveys or Surveys New depending on the feature used to create the survey. 

    You cannot view individual student responses for anonymous surveys from the student folder.

  3. Choose Responses for the selected survey, if available.
  4. Review the responses.

Use the shared survey library

Navigate to Connections and select Shared Survey Library to find surveys created and shared by other Naviance users via the Shared Survey Library.

  • Select View to review a shared survey.
  • Select Copy, enter a new survey name, and then click Copy Survey to add the survey to your school's survey library. Then, edit the survey to customize it for your school.
To share a school-level survey, select Share design with other schools when creating or editing the survey. You cannot add a district-level survey to the Shared Survey Library.
